{"id":12518,"date":"2026-05-02T09:25:33","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T02:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=12518"},"modified":"2026-05-02T09:25:35","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T02:25:35","slug":"young-going-strong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/young-going-strong\/","title":{"rendered":"Young going strong"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Cameron Young shot a 5-under 67 to get to 13 under and take a five-shot lead at the midway point of the Cadillac Gold Championship, a  $20 million Signature Event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Young&#8217;s only blemish in the round was a bogey at the par-4 14th, but couples with his bogey-free 64 in the opening round, it was enough to lead the trio of Nick Taylor, Alex Smalley and Jordan Spieth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canadian Taylor carded a second-round 70, highlighted by a chip-in eagle on No. 8 from 37 feet 11 inches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thirteen-time PGA Tour Spieth carded a 1-under 71 in the second round while Smalley recorded a 1-under 71 in the second round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>World number one Scottie Scheffler was in another group of six players including Alex Fitzpatrick at 6 under. Scheffler posted a bogey-free 5-under 67, his 79th bogey-free round on the Tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making first start as PGA Tour member, Fitzpatrick posted a bogey-free 6-under 66 in the second round, one shy of his career-low 18-hole score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming off a runner-up finish at last week\u2019s Zurich Classic with partner Kris Ventura, Tour rookie Kristoffer Reitan carded a bogey-free 68 in the second round. He was the last man in the field after Jake Knapp withdrew prior to the first round<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kurt Kitayama (T16\/-4) carded an 8-under 64 to set low round of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cink takes over<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fifty-year-old Stewart Cink carded second consecutive round of 7-under 65 to tie the 36-hole tournament scoring record at 14-under 130 at the Regions Tradition in Birmingham, Alabama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He now holds a two-stroke lead over 54-year-old Charlie Wi, who is seeking his first PGA<br>Tour Champions victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wi opened with five straight birdies and carded a 6-under 66 while World Golf Hall of Fame member Retief Goosen is tied third on 11 under.
