China\u2019s formidable squad led by World No 2, Wang Ziyi did face some early resistance but their path to the last four was never in doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zhiyi, the reigning All England champion, was up against the 33rd<\/sup> ranked Letshanaa Karupathevan in the opening singles. It was a repeat of their only other prior clash at the 2020 Uber Cup group matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The outcome was no different, with Zhiyi taking 47-minutes to defeat Letshanaa 21-17, 21-18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Malaysia opted to drop their captain Thinaah Muralitharan and field the normal pairing of Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting in the first doubles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It should have been a mismatch between the 22nd<\/sup> ranked pair and the Chinese world number pairing of Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But the young Malaysian pair paid scant respect to the ranking. The battled hard for 79-minutes but found the Chinese pair far more consistent, losing 14-21, 21-16, 13-21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Next up was world number 4 Chen Yufei up against Wong Ling Ching, ranked 37 in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Yufei showed the gulf between the two, taking just 36-minutes to win the match 21-10, 21-10 and steer China into the semi-finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The favourites will take on the winner of the tie between Japan and Thailand in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The bottom half of the quarter-finals will see Denmark taking on Indonesia and Korea, led by the mercurial An Se-young, playing Chinese Taipei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the Thomas Cup quarter-finals starting tomorrow, Malaysia has been once again drawn to meet China.
