{"id":12255,"date":"2026-04-27T09:02:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T02:02:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=12255"},"modified":"2026-04-27T09:02:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T02:02:09","slug":"he-aint-heavy-he-is-my-brother-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/he-aint-heavy-he-is-my-brother-2\/","title":{"rendered":"He ain&#8217;t heavy, he is my brother"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Fitzpatrick brothers &#8211; Matt and Alex, combined for a 1-under 71 in alternate-shot play Sunday to pull out a dramatic, single-stroke victory in the Zurich Classic golf team event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brothers finished with a tournament-record 31-under 257 total, but the win almost did not materialise after the duo gave away a four-stroke lead on the back nine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matt, the elder of the two Fitzpatricks, stuck a bunker shot on the par-5 18th a foot from the hole and Alex made the putt confirm the victory and earn a two-year exemption on PGA Tour for himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matt is already a regular on the Tour, ranked third in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watching from the clubhouse tied at 30 under were the teams of Americans Alex Smalley and Hayden Springer and Norwegians Kristoffer Reitan and Kris Ventura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brothers win came in their fourth appearance as a team and having missed the cut last year. They are also the first family members to win the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defending champions Ben Griffin and teammate Andrew Novak finished tied-10th their title<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flavin birdies to win<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Trailing by one with five holes to play, Patrick Flavin birdied Nos. 14-16 to take the lead and finish with a two-stroke victory at the 94 Abierto del Centro Zurich in Cordoba, Argentina. Flavin closed with a 4-under 67 at Cordoba Golf Club to overtake third-round leader Patrick Sheehan for his second PGA Tour sanctioned victory and first since 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo execute well under pressure was a huge thrill and I think something I&#8217;ll kind of feed off of going into the rest of the season and honestly rest of my career,\u201d Flavin said of his three straight birdies, which included a chip-in on No. 14. \u201cIt&#8217;s absolutely huge to win. \u2026 I&#8217;ve played a lot on different levels and what my goal has been for this season is just to kind of put my head down, enjoy being out here and playing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI had a couple weeks on the PGA TOUR that showed me I belong out there, I truly believe that that&#8217;s where I belong,\u201d said Flavin, who moves to No. 1 on the PGA Tour Americas Points List. \u201cI&#8217;ve always said to myself as long as I believe that I belong on the PGA Tour, I&#8217;ll keep playing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marcos Montenegro closed with a 1-under 70 and was the low Argentinian at T10, while reigning Latin America Amateur Championship winner Mateo Pulcini finished T27 at 4-under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mason Greene, winner of the season-opening Brazil Open, finished T56 and is No. 2 on the season-long points list after the second of 15 events in 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goosen for the win<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Trailing by three points in Modified Stableford entering the final round, World Golf Hall of Fame member Retief Goosen scored 14 points on Sunday to win the Mitsubishi Electric Classic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three-time champion Stephen Ames (+37) matched the most points scored on Sunday (+19) to take runner-up honors.
