Malaysia, who started their campaign with a 0-4 defeat at the hands of Vietnam, are through to the finals of the ASEAN Boy\u2019s U-17 football championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The teams that only qualified for the semi-finals as the best second placed team, carved out an impressive 3-0 win over Group B champions Laos in the semi-finals at the Gelora Delta Stadiumin Sidoarja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Malaysian, champions in 2013 and 2019, will take on Vietnam in the final, after the three time champions edged out defending champions Australia 2-1 in their semi-final tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coming into the tournament with their Under-16 squad, the Malaysian youngsters have been punching above their weight since their horror opening match. Since the defeat, they went on to beat host Indonesia and Timor Leste to squeeze into the last four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their easy defeat over Laos was unexpected with Laos beating the multiple champions Thailand in their group tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yusuf Nasrullah Ramli opened accounts for Malaysia in the seventh minute and the Laotians were left shell-shocked when Aniq Thaqif Hairulnizam doubled the score just four minutes later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Going into the second half with a 2-0 lead, Malaysia continued their fine performance and found their third in the 58th<\/sup> minute through Muzakif Fitri Mohamed to seal their place in the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is going to take an herculean effort by the Malaysian side to upstage the confident Vietnamese, who were last victorious in the series in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Vietnam, who had topped Group A unscathed, piling in 14 goals and conceding none in their run-up to the semi-finals. But the side that was beaten to third spot by Indonesia at the last edition, conceded for the first time against Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Luke Becvinocski put the Aussies ahead in the ninth minute to put the pressure on Vietnam. It took the hard working South East Asian side five minutes into injury time of the first half to level the score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The goal came courtesy of an effort from Nguy\u1ec5n M\u1ea1nh C\u01b0\u1eddng.
