{"id":11875,"date":"2026-04-20T08:38:23","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T01:38:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=11875"},"modified":"2026-04-20T08:42:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T01:42:19","slug":"fitzpatrick-beats-scheffler-in-playoff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/fitzpatrick-beats-scheffler-in-playoff\/","title":{"rendered":"Fitzpatrick beats Scheffler in playoff"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Former champion Matt Fitzpatrick of England sealed victory for the second time in playoff at the RBC Heritage golf championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fitzpatrick won the title three years ago, defeating  Jordan Spieth with a birdie on the third playoff hole. This time he defeated world number one Scottie Scheffler with a 13 feet birdie in the playoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scheffler, trailing by three shots with four holes to play, forced a playoff with a pair of late birdies for a 4-under 67 round to finish at 18-under 268 total. Fitzpatrick, could have won it outright but missed a 20-foot par putt for his only bogey of the day and a 70.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Fitzpatrick birdied the hole, Scheffler came up short from 37-yards in the playoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The win gave Fitzpatrick his fourth PGA Tour title and his second this season, having also won the Valspar Championship earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been a memorable week for the 31-year-old, who recorded 21 birdies and one eagle this week, the most birdies by any player in the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a case of one shot too far for Scheffler, who finished runner-up in back-to-back starts on TOUR for the first time in his career after also finishing short of the title at the Masters Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first time in his 11th season on the PGA Tour, Kim Si Woo posted a three top-3 finish. Having also finished third at the Farmers Insurance Open and Phoenix Open, he closed out at  16-under her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Collin Morikawa, Harris English and Ludvig \u00c5berg finished tied-fourth at 13-under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morikawa, who was forced to withdraw on his second hole of The Players with a back injury, notched his second consecutive top-10 finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was English&#8217;s best finish in 13 appearances at this event while first-round leader \u00c5berg recorded his fourth top-5 finish in his last five starts this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>It is a Greene day <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Leading by one at the start of the final round, Mason Greene birdied his first five<br>holes at the Rio Olympic Golf Course en route to a 4-under 67 and a two-stroke victory at<br>the 71st Brazil Open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greene played five seasons at UCLA (2019-24), but said in a video on his Instagram that he<br>considered quitting the game midway through his collegiate career. On September 18, 2022, during<br>his junior year, he wrote a note on his phone that he still has pinned to the top: \u201cNever give up on<br>something you believe in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/20260419_BrunoRuas_00120-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11877\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/20260419_BrunoRuas_00120-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/20260419_BrunoRuas_00120-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/20260419_BrunoRuas_00120-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/20260419_BrunoRuas_00120-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/20260419_BrunoRuas_00120-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSeptember 18, 2022, was probably the lowest point in my golf career and to this point this is the<br>highest I&#8217;ve ever been,\u201d Greene said Sunday after his win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s a long road ahead to get to where I want to, but PGA TOUR Americas is a phenomenal steppingstone and just super grateful for the opportunity to be out here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Less than four years after writing that note, Greene earned PGA TOUR Americas membership via Q School two weeks ago, surviving a 4-for-3 playoff to secure one of the last cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week during his PGA TOUR Americas debut, he converted the solo second- and third-round leads into his first win, and he\u2019s the early points leader in the season-long race for 10 Korn Ferry Tour cards for 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m glad I wrote that note now because it&#8217;s kind of just always a good reminder to keep pushing,\u201d<br>Greene said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLife is going to be tough and it&#8217;s going to knock you down, but as long as you keep<br>getting back up at the end of the day, if you believe in yourself enough, this is possible, and I did it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brett Roberts closed with a bogey-free 66 and finished runner-up, his third top-five finish on PGA TOUR Americas since the start of last season, while five players tied for third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marcus Byrd, Greyson Leach, Petr Hruby, Caden Fioroni and Charlie Crockett all finished on 17-under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Menante runs away with record win<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dylan Menante carded a bogey free nine-under 63 final round to run away with a six-stroke win at the Tulum Championship at PGA Riviera Maya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He not only carded an 18-hole tournament scoring record to capture his first Korn Ferry Tour<br>victory but also broke the 72-hole tournament scoring record of 279 set by Bryson Nimmer, Stuart Macdonald last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He finished with 19-under 269 total, and a largest margin of victory over second placed Blades Brown, who was the overnight leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Becomes the sixth first-time winner of the 2026 season, joining Ian Holt (Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at The Abaco Club), James Nicholas (Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard), Alistair Docherty (119thVisa Argentina Open presented by Macro), Doc Redman (Astara Chile Classic presented by Scotiabank) and Davis Lamb (Club Car Championship at the Landings Golf &amp; Athletic Club).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blades carded a round of 70 to finish 13-under 275 total for his second top-three finish of the 2026 season  after finishing solo third at the Club Car Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sandy Scott (3rd\/-12), who finished No. 55 on the 2025 Points List as a rookie, matched his career-best finish on the Korn Ferry Tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cink in seventh heaven<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Stewart Cink closed with the low round of the week and course record 63 en route to a to a six-stroke win at the 86th Senior PGA Championship to capture his first senior major title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 52-year-old carded rounds of 69-67-70-63 to finish with a 19-under total and his seventh win on PGA Tour Champions. His final round bogey-free 9-under 63 was also the course record at The Concession Golf Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His previous best finish in a senior major was the runner-up spot at the U.S. Senior Open last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2009 PGA Tour Open Champion also earned his third win of the season, having also captured the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai in January and the Hoag Classic last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making his fourth start on PGA TOUR Champions since turning 50 on March 6, Ben Crane earned his best finish to date with a runner-up result. He finished with a 275 total after rounds of 67-69-71-68.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second round co-leader Scott Hend finished T3 for his best result on PGA Tour Champions with three-time Tour winner Steve Allan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2022 champion Steven Alker (T5) carded his third consecutive 68 after opening with 76 on Thursday.
