Singapore could still qualify for the semi-finals as the best second placed team but it would all depend on the results of the remaining matches in the other two groups.

Cambodia has now failed to get past the group stages for the sixth consecutive time since finishing fourth at the 2016 edition. That was also the only time that Cambodia managed to get past the group stages in 13 attempts.

In the match against Australia, Cambodia found themselves trailing early into the first half. Georgio Hassarati out the Aussies ahead in the 8th minute.

Neither team were able to breach their other’s goal in the first half and much of the second. It was not until the 80th minute that Australia doubled the lead through Josef Sikora.

As for Singapore, they led 2-0 in the first half against Brunei, with strike from Danis Abdul Hazin in the 30t minute and Aidan Irfan nine minutes later.

They doubled the tally in a one-minute spell in the second half. Gavriel Lai Keng Lum notched up their third in the 54th minute with Aryan Sahib finding the net just a minute later.

Ayden Haziq Syaifuallah hammered in the final nail with another goal in the 80th minute.

Brunei ended the tournament without scoring any goals and conceding a massive 18, twelve of which they yielded to Australia.

Australia, already through to the last four, are looking to claim a record fourth championships title having won on it in 2008, 2016 and 2024. Vietnam and Thailand also hold three championships titles.

Thailand, who were beaten 0-1 by Myanmar earlier this week, must beat table toppers Laos in their final Group B match tomorrow.

If Thailand wins the encounter and Myanmar as expected beats the Philippines, it will be Myanmar that would qualify for the semi-finals. Thailand will then need to wait for the results of the Group A matches on Saturday to see whether they can qualify.

However, if both Laos and Myanmar win their respective games tomorrow, both teams will qualify for the semi-finals, immaterial of what happens in the remaining Group A matches.

Cambodia’s slim hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals of the ASEAN Under-17 Football Championships was snuffed out by

[43,7
63
post-11780","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-national","category-newsbeat","tag-football
["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Australia-Cambodia-footbal-u17.jpg",2002,1127,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Australia-Cambodia-footbal-u17-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Australia-Cambodia-footbal-u17-300x169.jpg",300,169,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Australia-Cambodia-footbal-u17-768x432.jpg",640,360,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Australia-Cambodia-footbal-u17-1024x576.jpg",640,360,true],"1536x1536":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Australia-Cambodia-footbal-u17-1536x865.jpg",1536,865,true],"2048x2048":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Australia-Cambodia-footbal-u17.jpg",2002,1127,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Australia-Cambodia-footbal-u17-825x575.jpg",825,575,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Australia-Cambodia-footbal-u17-590x410.jpg",590,410,true
admin
National Newsbeat
["GET
