{"id":11740,"date":"2026-04-17T08:02:48","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T01:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=11740"},"modified":"2026-04-17T08:02:50","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T01:02:50","slug":"anderson-bidding-for-third-european-gp-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/anderson-bidding-for-third-european-gp-title\/","title":{"rendered":"Anderson bidding for third European GP title"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Gary Anderson will begin his bid for a third consecutive European Darts Grand Prix title against Niko Springer or Robin Masino, with the draw and schedule for this weekend&#8217;s European Tour event now confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fifth European Tour event of 2026 will see a 48-player field competing for the \u00a335,000 top prize in Sindelfingen starting today, as Anderson prepares to take centre stage once again at the Glaspalast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two-time World Champion has not featured on the European Tour circuit since February&#8217;s Poland Darts Open, but will be amongst six former European Darts Grand Prix winners in action this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tonight&#8217;s opening round will feature 16 matches across two sessions, with German star Springer pitted against his fellow countryman Masino, who will make his big stage debut on home soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former champions Rob Cross, Peter Wright and Kim Huybrechts will also star on Day One in Sindelfingen, along with 2019 winner Ian White \u2013 who replaces Ryan Joyce in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cross kicks off his campaign against 2024 Grand Slam of Darts semi-finalist Mickey Mansell, while 2017 champion Wright will take on the enigmatic Jeffrey de Zwaan for a place in round two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Huybrechts \u2013 who lifted the title in 2015 \u2013 also faces Dutch opposition in the shape of Dirk van Duijvenbode, with White pitted against European Darts Trophy champion Wessel Nijman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scottish star Cameron Menzies and five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld go head-to-head in another high-profile clash, as Niels Zonneveld and Keane Barry meet on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kevin Doets and Jurjen van der Velde collide in an all-Dutch affair, while former UK Open champion Andrew Gilding goes up against Host Nation representative Paul Krohne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Australian number one Damon Heta takes on Latvia&#8217;s premier player Madars Razma for a place in round two, with former Masters champion Joe Cullen pitted against Maik Kuivenhoven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top 16 players on the PDC Rankings Ladder enter the fray in round two on Saturday, headlined by Anderson&#8217;s showdown against Springer or Masino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Top seed Gian van Veen faces Cullen or his compatriot Kuivenhoven, as Michael van Gerwen opens his challenge for a third European Darts Grand Prix crown against William O&#8217;Connor or Michael Unterbuchner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Czechia&#8217;s Karel Sedlacek and Latvia&#8217;s Valters Melderis battle it out for the right to meet third seed Jonny Clayton, and James Wade faces a tough assignment against Van Duijvenbode or Huybrechts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fifth seed Josh Rock begins his title challenge against Zonneveld or Barry, before an in-form Gerwyn Price meets Petr Krivka or eight-time European Tour winner Dave Chisnall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nathan Aspinall \u2013 fresh from lifting the German Darts Grand Prix title in Munich \u2013 begins his bid for a second consecutive European Tour crown against Wright or De Zwaan in another blockbuster tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Danny Noppert \u2013 runner-up to Aspinall in Munich \u2013 plays either Daryl Gurney or Oskar Lukasiak, while Premier League star Stephen Bunting has been tasked with a showdown against Cross or Mansell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nijman or White await tenth seed Ryan Searle in round two, as Menzies and Van Barneveld lock horns for the right to take on former European Champion Ross Smith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elsewhere, Martin Schindler will aim to ignite his 2026 campaign in Sindelfingen, with the German number one drawn against Heta or Razma for a place in the last 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the conclusion of round two, the last 16 return to the stage on Sunday afternoon, before the tournament culminates with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final in a bumper evening session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Tournament Draw Bracket &#8211;
