The intervening years have included a spell of nearly two years away from the circuit due to problems with his eyesight and the pandemic.

Victory sees Fu earn a clash in the penultimate qualifying round against 2024 Crucible runner-up Jak Jones. Both will have their work cut out to negotiate a perilous section of the draw, with the winner facing either 2023 World Champion Luca Brecel or Scottish Open runner-up Chang Bingyu on Judgement Day.

Defeat comes as a bitter blow for 19-year-old Davies, who is relegated from the circuit and will require Q School for a tour card next season.

It had looked as if Fu was cruising to victory when he took the opening five frames of the evening to move 9-5 ahead. However, Davies mounted an epic fightback, with four on the bounce to set up a tense final frame.

Both players spurned opportunities, but the key moment eventually came on the final red. Davies went full-blooded at a tricky cut to the top left. The ball remained over the pocket and Fu cleared to make round three. Afterwards the 48-year-old admitted nothing quite replicates the pressure of the World Championship.

Fu said: “Everybody has their story and their reason to win. This was an important match for Liam and for me as well. That is why the World Championship is so special. It is the last and best tournament of the season. Everyone is fighting. I can tell you it isn’t easy out there. Whether you are a newcomer or a seven-time World Champion. I am just very happy to have won.”

Hungary’s Bulcsu Revesz kept his tour survival hopes alive with a nerve-shredding 10-8 win over Louis Heathcote.

19-year-old Revesz also had to win to stand a chance of remaining on the circuit. He looked good to make round three when he moved 9-5 ahead. Three consecutive frames from Heathcote pumped up the pressure, but he held his nerve to get over the line.

“It was an interesting atmosphere. I’m enjoying it even more as I get further in the tournament. I’ve had quite a few practice matches against Zhang Anda at Victoria’s Snooker Academy. We know each other quite well. I just want to enjoy it step by step and concentrate on the next game,” said Revesz.

“It would mean everything (to play at the Crucible). It would be a dream come true, but I’m just staying in the moment. If I qualify that would be amazing, but right now I’m enjoying this win and concentrating on the game with Zhang Anda.”

India’s Ishpreet Singh Chadha remained in the hunt to become his country’s first Crucible competitor, beating Scotland’s Chris Totten 10-5. Next up for Singh Chadha is Ryan Day.

Former Welsh Open winner Jordan Brown beat Ian Burns 10-9 on the final black to prevail in a dramatic encounter. He now faces Lei Peifan.

ROUND TWO RESULTS: Liu Hongyu (Chn) bt Xu Yichen (Chn) 10-5; Ishpreet Singh Chada (Ind) bt Chris Totten (Sco) 10-5l Oliver Sykes (Eng) bt Lyu Haotian (Chn) 10-8; Marco Fu (Hkg) bt Liam Davies (Wal) 10-9; Chang Bingyu (Chn) bt Prin Ratmukda (Tha) 10-2; Ben Mertens (Ger) bt Jamie Clarke (Wal) 10-0; Jordan Brown (Eng) bt Ian Burns (Eng) 10-9; Louis Heathcote (Eng) bt Bulcsu Revesz (Hun) 10-8; Allan Taylor (Eng) bt Steven Hallworth (Eng) 10-6

Hong Kong’s Marco Fu kept his hopes of a first Crucible appearance in eight years alive, after edging

[7
378
post-11528","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-newsbeat","tag-snooker
["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Marco_Fu_at_Snooker_German_Masters_DerHexer_2013-02-03_05-scaled.jpg",2560,1661,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Marco_Fu_at_Snooker_German_Masters_DerHexer_2013-02-03_05-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Marco_Fu_at_Snooker_German_Masters_DerHexer_2013-02-03_05-300x195.jpg",300,195,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Marco_Fu_at_Snooker_German_Masters_DerHexer_2013-02-03_05-768x498.jpg",640,415,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Marco_Fu_at_Snooker_German_Masters_DerHexer_2013-02-03_05-1024x665.jpg",640,416,true],"1536x1536":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Marco_Fu_at_Snooker_German_Masters_DerHexer_2013-02-03_05-1536x997.jpg",1536,997,true],"2048x2048":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Marco_Fu_at_Snooker_German_Masters_DerHexer_2013-02-03_05-2048x1329.jpg",2048,1329,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Marco_Fu_at_Snooker_German_Masters_DerHexer_2013-02-03_05-825x575.jpg",825,575,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Marco_Fu_at_Snooker_German_Masters_DerHexer_2013-02-03_05-590x410.jpg",590,410,true
admin
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Marco_Fu_at_Snooker_German_Masters_DerHexer_2013-02-03_05-scaled.jpg
["GET
