Maybe this year or next year I can become the youngest Crucible player,” said Szubarczyk. “For me getting to the Crucible is the first goal of very many others in professional snooker.

“I’m enjoying the pressure and expectation. It doesn’t act as something bad for me. I like it. I have been dreaming about playing in the World Championship for about the last six years!”

Bai Yulu beats Daniel Womersley 10-7 to become the first female player to win a match at the World Championship since in nine years. She emulates the feat of Reanne Evans, who beat Robin Hull in 2017.

Women’s World Champion Yulu top scored with 101 in the win and now progresses to face former Shoot Out winner Michael Holt.

Yulu said: “In previous years I have always lost in the first round here and today I wanted to change that. I made some adjustments to peform gradually better. This is a long format so I got a bit tired towards the end, but I’m happy about my mindset and I stayed really comfortable.

“If I win two more rounds I will start to feel more proud. I watched Reanne Evans’ win in 2017, so I knew I would be the first since then. However, I value my form more. I hope I can go on and win some more matches.”

Gao Yang inflicted a heartbreaking defeat on Jimmy White, winning 10-9 to end the Whirlwind’s hopes of a first Crucible berth since 2006.

At 9-9, it all came down to the colours. White needed a snooker on the green and he got it. The six-time world finalist then missed two browns with chances to clear and win. The second spurned chance left the ball over the pocket for former WSF Champion Gao to get over the line. He now faces Mark Davis.

ROUND ONE RESULTS: Yao Pengcheng (Chn) bt Ryan Davies (Eng) 10-9; Leone Crowley (Ire) Jonas Luz (Bra) 10-5; Bai Yulu (Chn) bt Daniel Womersley (Ire) 10-7; Xinbo Wang (Chn) bt Mitchell Mann (Eng) 10-4; Michal Szubarczyk (Pol) bt Onyee Ng (Hkg) 10-7; Robbie McGuigan (Eng) bt Hammad Miah (Eng) 10-8;

Polish sensation Michal Szubarczyk became the youngest ever player to win a match in the Halo World Championship,

[7
378
post-11340","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-newsbeat","tag-snooker
["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/1920px-Ng_On_Yee_PHC_2017-3.jpg",1920,1332,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/1920px-Ng_On_Yee_PHC_2017-3-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/1920px-Ng_On_Yee_PHC_2017-3-300x208.jpg",300,208,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/1920px-Ng_On_Yee_PHC_2017-3-768x533.jpg",640,444,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/1920px-Ng_On_Yee_PHC_2017-3-1024x710.jpg",640,444,true],"1536x1536":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/1920px-Ng_On_Yee_PHC_2017-3-1536x1066.jpg",1536,1066,true],"2048x2048":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/1920px-Ng_On_Yee_PHC_2017-3.jpg",1920,1332,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/1920px-Ng_On_Yee_PHC_2017-3-825x575.jpg",825,575,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/1920px-Ng_On_Yee_PHC_2017-3-590x410.jpg",590,410,true
admin
["GET
