{"id":11223,"date":"2026-04-04T09:22:50","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T02:22:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=11223"},"modified":"2026-04-04T09:22:52","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T02:22:52","slug":"gilligan-sails-to-the-top","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/gilligan-sails-to-the-top\/","title":{"rendered":"Gilligan sails to the top"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With 69 players unable to complete their rounds at the Suncoast Classic golf championships, American Ian Gilligan, who managed to complete his, sits atop the leaderboard with a total 15-under 127.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second round was suspended due to darkness and will resume later today with 36-hole cut pending upon its completion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gilligan, the reigning Australian Masters of the Amateurs champion, is one of the stories that showcases the game of golf. In June 2018, at 15 years old and having just finished his freshman year of high school, Gilligan was diagnosed with stage 4 ALK-negative large cell lymphoma, a rare form of lymphoma typically found in adults as opposed to those under 25 years of age; he was declared cancer-free after roughly seven months of treatment<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He followed up his opening day round of 7-under 64 with 8-under 63 in the second. He is four strokes ahead of Jay Card III, who has yet to complete his round. Card, who carded a 63 opening round is -11 under through 10 holes in the second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overnight leader Hunter Eichhorn is tied third with Peter Kuest at 10-under. Kuest carded round of 65-67 to move up the leaderboard but Eicchorn still has the change to improve on his position. He has yet to finish his second round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eichhorn, who fired a sizzling 62 in his opening round, and will resume his second round at the 10th hole when play restarts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Overnight leader Hubbard blows up<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robert MacIntyre has taken the lead at the Texas Open at 14-under, following up on his opening round of 66 with a 64. In contrast, first round leader Mark Hubbard had a disastrous day, carding a five over round slip to tied 60th at two-under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luke Clanton, one of the players tied with Hubbard is the lone player yet to complete his round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacIntyre, in six starts this season, has two top-10 finishes, finishing fourth at both the Sony Open in Hawaii an the The Players Championship. He is in search of his third win to add to the 2024 RBC Canadian Open and 2024 Genesis Scottish Open titles.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ludvig \u00c5berg is four strokes behind and is coming off of back-to-back top-5 finishes for the first time in his career, He finished T3 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T5 at the Players Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aberg holed out for eagle with a sand wedge from 120 yards on the par-4 sixth hole, while Tony Finau is tied third with Kevin Roy, Bud Cauley and Thorbj\u00f8rn Olesen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2022 winner and reigning U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun is at T15 at 6-under while defending champion Brian Harman is T43 at three-under. Thirteen-time PGA TOUR winner and 2021 champion Jordan Spieth is 12-strokes behind the leader at two-under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Leaderboard<\/strong> <strong>(Suncoast
