{"id":11142,"date":"2026-04-02T08:19:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T01:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/?p=11142"},"modified":"2026-04-02T08:19:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T01:19:12","slug":"seven-seeds-crash-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infinitysport.asia\/news\/seven-seeds-crash-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Seven seeds crash out"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The PSA World Championships Asian Qualifying event got underway in dramatic style earlier today, with seven seeds stunned on the opening day of action at the Hong Kong Football Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the men\u2019s event, Malaysia\u2019s Mohammad Syafiq Kamal produced one of the performances of the day to defeat No.3 seed Matthew Lai in straight games, while Hong Kong\u2019s Shing Fung Lam stunned No.4 seed Ameeshenraj Chandaran by an 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-3 scoreline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other seed to fall in the men\u2019s draw was former World Junior Champion and tournament No.7 seed Hamza Khan, who lost out to Hong Kong\u2019s Ming Hong Tang 17-15, 11-13, 11-7, 11-5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysian top seed Sanjay Jeeva, however, wasn\u2019t to be denied a spot in the quarter-finals, claiming a routine three-game win over Korea\u2019s Jeongmin Ryu, with Pakistani No.2 seed Muhammad Asim Khan also advancing by the same scoreline after beating Japan\u2019s Naoki Hayashi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, in the women\u2019s event, unseeded Hong Kong duo Kirstie Wong and Heylie Fung produced the two upsets of the day, both coming from a game behind to defeat No.3 seed Joshna Chinappa and No.4 seed Yasshmita Jadishkumar, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pair were joined by fellow [9\/16] seeds Akari Midorikawa and Sehveetrraa Kumar after they also claimed ranking upsets to secure their quarter-final berths.
