I’m happy with how we’ve improved and the adversities we’ve overcome, ever since the first match when we were up against the wall.”

They nearly went out to another Spanish-Argentine pair, qualifiers Pablo Lijó-Maximiliano Arce Simo pushing them to a third-set tiebreak that Coello-Tapia won 7-3 before they benefited from a retirement and easy semi-final against unseeded Tolito Aguirre and Alex Arroyo.

Down the bottom of the draw, Galán-Chingotto suffered a rare 7-5 6-4 quarter-final defeat to unseeded pair Sanyo Gutiérrez-Gonzalo Alfonso who were swept aside 6-1 6-2 by Lebrón-Augsburger to make their first final as a pair in the same country where they debuted together.

With Coello-Tapia in their 18th consecutive final, ultimately their winning background proved crucial again to elevate Tapia above Galán again with 55 active career titles and Coello extending his unbeaten streak in Mexican events at the luxurious and atmospheric Rafa Nadal Tennis Center.

Outside of a tricky Round-of-16 tie for second seeds Paula Josemaría Martín-Bea González – where they had to come back from a set down for victory – the tournament was a Caribbean breeze for the top two seeds as Triay-Brea only dropped 13 games heading into the final.

With Josemaría-González contesting their first final together, fans were expecting a close contest which proved correct in the first set that the top seeds claimed 7-4 in a tiebreak only for them to race away 6-1 to defend their title and see Triay draw level with Ari Sánchez as the second-most decorated women’s player with 54 titles, four behind Alejandra Salazar.

Triay, 33, said: “We were prepared for an outdoor tournament, with its challenges like the wind but I think we’ve adapted really well throughout the week. We had a really tough match today.”

Brea, 26, added: “They’re two tremendous players who produce their best padel at the toughest moments; we saw that this week, with the comeback they staged and everything they achieved together.”

The 2026 Premier Padel circuit now moves on to the second edition of the Miami P1 that is currently underway at the Miami Beach Convention Center until March 29.

Arturo Coello-Agustín Tapia got back to winning ways when they dug deep to edge out fourth seeds Juan

[44,7
366
post-10865","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-international","category-newsbeat","tag-padel
["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Padel-1-scaled.jpg",2560,1707,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Padel-1-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Padel-1-300x200.jpg",300,200,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Padel-1-768x512.jpg",640,427,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Padel-1-1024x683.jpg",640,427,true],"1536x1536":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Padel-1-1536x1024.jpg",1536,1024,true],"2048x2048":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Padel-1-2048x1365.jpg",2048,1365,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Padel-1-825x575.jpg",825,575,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Padel-1-590x410.jpg",590,410,true
admin
International Newsbeat
["GET
