He finished the third round with a one-under 71 but it was enough to see him finishing the day 13 under, three shots clear of Michael Thorbjornsen, who sits in solo second. It was also helped by his third eagle of the week, an 18-foot putt on the par-5 11th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was an underwhelming day for Aberg who carded a nearly record-breaking 9-under 63 in the second round. Still, his three-stroke lead is the largest 54-hole lead at Championship since 2018 when Webb Simpson led by 7 strokes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 26-year-old Swede is seeking his third career PGA Tour victory and his first since the Genesis Invitational last year. Aberg is making his third appearance at The Players; having finished solo eighth in his debut in 2024 but missed the cut last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Twenty-four-year-old Thorbjornsen, who started his campaign with a first round 74, but has made considerable grounds with rounds of 65 and 67 to see himself holding on to solo second spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
