Ludvig Aberg fired a 9-under 63 to take an outright two-shot at the Players Championship. Having tied first with four others after the first round, he is now 12-under with a 132 total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aberg leads Xander Schauffele on a day that saw World No 1 Scottie Scheffler barely making the cut. The two-time champion finished one over par, the same as defending champion is Rory McIlroy. Scheffler tied-51 extends his longest active cuts made streak on the Tour to 70.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aberg was 5 under through his opening four holes and made an eagle on the par-5 ninth for a 29 to tie the front-nine record on the Stadium Course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is only the third player ever to post 29 on the front nine at the TPC Sawgrass, the others being Dustin Johnsonin 2022 and Martin Kaymer in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Making his third career appearance at The Players, he finished solo eighth in his debut in 2024 and missed the cut last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Schauffele is on ten-under after making a statement 65 round that saw him firing in eight birdies. Schauffele is withing striking distance as he looks to improve on his two career runner-up finishes at the tournament in 2018 and 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cameron Young is a further stroke behind and posted a 67 for his low 18-hole score in 16 career rounds at TPC Sawgrass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Making his second start of the season since returning from back surgery in November, former champion Justin Thomas is T4 with Corey Conners at eight-under. Conners birdied five of his first six holes in his round of 67.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
