However, her journey at WTT Champions Doha 26 ended in the opening round at the hands of three-time Champions winner Manyu.

Despite the odds being against her and Manyu playing in front of a home crowd, Odo wasted no time in deconstructing Manyu’s play as the score moved from 3-1 to 5-2. Manyu briefly found her way back into the game, hitting three winners to lead the tie for the first – and what would turn out to be the last – time. Odo ended the opening game by claiming six of the final seven points.

It was in second game where it really began to dawn on those inside Bloomage Biotech Biohyalux ECM Arena what was happening as Manyu simply could not stop Odo, who set up a staggering nine game points before taking it 11-5.

You can never count Manyu out of a match, and the World No. 2 had not lost to a Japanese player since 2019 before today. But any whispers of a comeback were quickly silenced as Odo opened the final game by hitting five without reply.

“I was defeated 3-0 the last time we played, so going into this match, my goal is to win one set and over the past week, I’ve been practising, and I think I’ve developed a better feel for the sport. Given that, my coach has told me that I should have a chance to win over any opponent, so I went into this match with good confidence,” said Satsuki.

One of the matches of the day was the Top 20 women’s singles clash between the attacking Shin Yubin and the defensive Honoka Hashimoto. While it was Yubin who came out on top, the match was decided by the finest of margins, with only six points splitting the two 11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8.

One of the moments of the match saw Hashimoto call a Time Out when down two games and trailing 1-3 in the third. Returning to the table, she would take seven of the next nine points to flip the score on its head. She brought the match to 2-1 by pulling out a number of tricks to triumph in a 22-shot rally and come out on top in a must-win game.

Fourth seed Zhu Yuling started her Chongqing campaign with a 11-9, 11-7, 12-10 win over Ying Han.

Yuling , who has only lost one match and already lifted two women’s singles titles this season, has beaten Han twice this year, with one of those wins coming in the semifinal of WTT Champions Doha 2026.

But Han has also enjoyed her highs, qualifying for the final four match there after a historic victory over Manyu.

There was almost nothing to split these veterans in the early exchanges of Tuesday’s match, as they kept trading blows and two-point advantages. With Han serving at 9-9, you could feel the tension growing around the table, Ultimately, it was the German, and she practically gifted Zhu the opening game after faulting her serve after the Macau, China player got Game Point.

After that, the former World No.1 established a foothold and started to dominate the second game, hitting winner after winner as she started to put distance between herself and Han.

But with decades of experience behind her, Han wasn’t going to give up without a fight. She came from behind to draw level six times in that match and went ahead twice before saving two Match Points. But in the end, it was too big a mountain to climb, and Yuling’s early-season dominance continued.

Men’s singles second seed Truls Moregard stepped into Infinity ∞ Arena and defeated Anders Lind 11-6, 11-4, 13-11.

Moregard stepped onto the court to face Lind, and the Swede dominated the first two games. Facing an early exit, Lind threw the kitchen sink at Moregard in the final game, but still found himself trailing, and at 9-4 down, the situation looked bleak. But the Dane rallied, hitting a series of winners and saved four game points before eventually succumbing.

Rising stars of French and Chinese table tennis collided in their the men’s singles tie as Wen Ruibo took down Flavien Coton 11-6, 11-4, 11-7.

These two had just three WTT Champions appearances between them heading into this match, but have already established themselves as players who could potentially become future world beaters.

The 17-year-old Coton has made a phenomenal start to the season, reaching the Round of 16 at Singapore Smash and the semifinals of WTT Star Contender Chennai. Ruibo, 19, won the Men’s Singles crown at WTT Contender Muscat just days after making the semifinal at WTT Star Contender Doha.

It was Ruibo who threw down the gauntlet in the opening stages, storming to a 7-1 lead in Game One before closing it out.

The young Chinese was clearly in the mood, and after an even start to the second, he began hyping himself up with loud shouts and a run around the court after winning points. And his methods of psyching himself clearly worked, as he hit eight on the spin to overturn a one-point deficit and win the second game.

Ruibo was on the hunt, and France’s rising star was powerless to stop his opponent in this must-win game. 6-3 quickly became 9-6 before the match was signed, sealed and delivered, and Ruibo moved to the Round of 16 at a WTT Champions event for the first time in his young career.

Ruibo will face World No.2 Truls Moregard in the Round of 16.

In another match, An Jaehyun and Thibault Poret played out a five-game thriller, where the Korean player twice came from behind to progress 11-13, 11-5, 2-11, 11-8, 11-1.

Jaehyun hit four points in a row at the end of the first game to save three game points and set up one of his own, but still managed to lose the opener. After winning the second game, Jaehyun was left stunned as Poret hit 11 points in a row to go 2-1 up. Trailing 1-4 in the fourth, Jaehyun called a time-out as the must-win game was slipping away from him.

Returning to the table with a new tactical focus, Jaehyun regained the lead and started knocking off points to level the match. He finished the match by doing to Poret what the Frenchman had done to him in the third – hitting 11 on the bounce to put the game, and the match, to bed.

Satsuki Odo stunned No.2 seed Wang Manyu in straight games 11-7, 11-5, 11-3 to progress to the Round

[7
65
post-10409","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-newsbeat","tag-table-tennis
["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Satsuki-Odo-beats-Wang-Manyu.jpg",1920,1080,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Satsuki-Odo-beats-Wang-Manyu-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Satsuki-Odo-beats-Wang-Manyu-300x169.jpg",300,169,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Satsuki-Odo-beats-Wang-Manyu-768x432.jpg",640,360,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Satsuki-Odo-beats-Wang-Manyu-1024x576.jpg",640,360,true],"1536x1536":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Satsuki-Odo-beats-Wang-Manyu-1536x864.jpg",1536,864,true],"2048x2048":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Satsuki-Odo-beats-Wang-Manyu.jpg",1920,1080,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Satsuki-Odo-beats-Wang-Manyu-825x575.jpg",825,575,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Satsuki-Odo-beats-Wang-Manyu-590x410.jpg",590,410,true
admin
["GET
