The two East Asian sides will meet on Monday to decide the group winners.

Despite making nine changes to the line-up from their 2-0 win against Bangladesh on Tuesday, China controlled play from the first blow of the whistle with an unchanged Uzbekistan forced to sit in a low defensive block.

The Central Asian side, however, looked comfortable in shutting out China with only half-chances afforded to Wu Chengshu and Shao Ziqin, both of whom fired their respective attempts wide.

Out of nothing, China took the lead in the 30th minute as Ziqin converted from the spot after she had her jersey pulled by Kholida Dadaboeva, with referee Supiree Testhomya immediately awarding the penalty.

Ziqin had the opportunity for a second goal two minutes before the end of the first half when she got on to Chen Qiaozhu’s cutback from the left, only to see Maftuna Jonimqulova pull off a great save.

It took China only six minutes after the break to double their advantage with Jonimqulova caught out of position, Dilrabo Asadova’s poor touch saw Li Mengwen stealing possession to tee up Li Qingtong to sidefoot the ball home into an unguarded goalmouth.

Substitute Tang Jiali then warmed the gloves of Jonimqulova with a curling shot from the edge of the area as China PR looked for more goals. The third came in the 77th minute, with Qingtong grabbing her second in the game after nodding in Zhang Xin’s perfect delivery from the right flank to seal a dominant win.

North Korea – unchanged from their opening 3-0 win against Uzbekistan – took time to get into their stride against Bangladesh, who made two changes from their 2-0 loss to China with Tohura Khatun and Airin Khatun starting instead of Sheuli Azim and Umehla Marma.

The three-time champions had the net bulging in the 14th minute through Kim Kyong Yong but the goal was ruled out following a VAR check as Myong Yu Jong had handled the ball earlier in the move.

North Korea found the back of the net again in the 26th minute but Han Jin Hong’s toepoked effort from close range was flagged as a foul for kicking the ball out of Bangladesh custodian Mile Akter’s grasp.

Incredibly, North Korea had another goal chalked off after a VAR review with Kyong Yong’s strike on the half hour mark ruled as offside, with the forward then thumping the ball against the bar with a header before Jin Hong dragged a shot wide after bursting into the box.

The breakthrough finally came in the fifth minute of first half added time when Hong Song Ok was dragged down in the box by Afeida Khandaker with Tuesday’s hat-trick hero Myong making no mistake in placing her spot-kick past a rooted Akter.

North Korea extended their lead two minutes later when Chae Un Yong found Kyong Yong in the box, who fired home from an acute angle into the bottom corner.

The one-way traffic continued in the second half as Bangladesh succumbed to persistent North Korean pressure as the East Asian side increased their lead in the 62nd minute after a slip from Kohati Kisku allowed Un Yong to stab home from close range.

It became 4-0 two minutes later with Choe Il Son releasing Kyong Yong into space in the box and the latter gleefully accepted the invitation to fire a low shot into the bottom corner.

The emphatic victory was sealed in the 90th minute as Kim Hye Yong steered a header from Song Chun Sim’s cross past Akter.

Defending champions China and dark-horses North Korea booked their AFC Women’s Asian Cup quarter-final spots in style.
