Mr. Lion Heart himself, the man who took home the Singapore Smash title back in 2024 was the red-hot favourite heading into the showdown, and had dropped just two games en route to the final.

Facing off against Yun-Ju, who last month brought a 798-day title drought to an end at WTT Champions Doha, Chuqin walked onto Infinity ∞ Arena with purpose in his stride.

Greeted with huge roars from the sell-out crowd, the Chinese megastar was fired up right from point one, displaying his clinical best to lock up the opening five points. Yun-Ju slowly began to work his way into the contest, but couldn’t cope with his opponent’s blistering pace as Chuqin took game one by a dominant eight-point margin.

Looking top-notch all week long in the Lion City, Yun-Ju by no means looked off the mark, showing glimpses of his brilliant best in the early exchanges of game two, but everything he threw at Chuqin was returned with interest as the latter player went 5-1 up again. The margins would tighten, with Wang putting a couple of balls into the net unexpectedly before Yun-Ju unleashed a stunning counter into Wang’s crossover to raise the tension. But another game would go in Chuqin’s favour.

After seeing a promising start to the third slip through his fingers, Yun-Ju went for his time-out, knowing he absolutely must take the game to have any chance of turning his fortunes around. While there was a late flurry from Lin, it wasn’t enough to knock Chuqin off course as the World No.1 extended his advantage to three.

Fighting bravely until the end, No.8 seed Lin emptied the tank in the fourth game, going for broke. He’d lead for large parts of the game, but his efforts were in vain, as Chuqin raised his fist in the air once again in celebration of Singapore Smash glory.

With another Singapore Smash winner’s trophy in his hands, Chuqin now has five WTT Grand Smash titles to his name, and hasn’t lost a WTT Grand Smash singles match since last year’s Singapore Smash, having recorded title wins at United States Smash and China Smash. Chuqin’s overall singles record on the WTT Series improves to 15 titles, coming away with the honours on his first appearance of the season, starting his 2026 at breakneck speed.

Despite missing out at the final hurdle, the Yun-Ju leaves Singapore with a new personal best WTT Grand Smash finish, reaching his first final at this level.

Old rivals Yingsha and Manyu have faced off against each other twelve times on the WTT Series, with Yingsha winning 10. However, they last encountered each other in the final of China Smash last year, where it was Manyu who emerged victorious. Triumph for Manyu this time would give her back-to-back Grand Smash titles.

You could cut the tension with a knife as the action got underway, and it was the World No.2 who made the best start to the final as Yingsha found herself chasing in the early stages. But a quick succession of points saw Yingsha fight back from 5-7 down to 9-7 up, and she soon found herself on the final’s first game point, forcing Manyu to miss the table to draw first blood.

The second game shifted from the tactical battle that preceded it to a blood-and-thunder rally filled third. And this time, Yingsha started brightly as the new pace of the game allowed her to unleash brutal forearm shots that Wang couldn’t deal with.

An 8-2 lead in that game looked safe, but things got nervy as Manyu found her groove and six points in a row brought it level. But all that hard work was undone as Yingsha won two points on her opponent’s serve, before converting game point. On winning that crucial point, the soon-to-be five-time Grand Smash champion turned to the crowd and raised a clenched fist.

Reacting to that celebration, Yingsha ’s fans inside the arena cranked up the decibels, but that didn’t affect Manyu, who went 4-1 up in the third and then fired off four on the spin to halve the match deficit.

As the sold-out crowd were battling to see who could chant their favourite player’s name loudest, Yingsha and Manyu continued to trade blows at the table. Manyu, the WTT Finals Hong Kong 2025 champion, was able to ride the momentum of the third game into the fourth. At 8-5 up, she let out an audible English “Come on” as her confidence grew.

Well and truly in the ascendancy, Manyu had brought the match back to a level playing field, and the women’s singles final was now a two-game match. Game on.

Utilising her spin game, Manyu did something very few table tennis players have managed: She was making it uncomfortable for Yingsha and found herself on three game points and could smell blood.

But you can never count the World No.1 out, and when Yingsha got back to within one point, Manyu called her time out, sat in silence, folding her towel and wiping the sweat from her brow. Manyu had one minute to come up with a way of winning just one point.

Upon return to the table, two lets on Yingsha ’s serve only raised the tension. As the rally finally got underway, Yingsha benefited from her shot clipping the net in the rally to go to duece. There was hysteria in the arena when Sun hit two more points to move within one game of the title. Having already come back from two games down, Manyu would have to do it again if she was going to win this one.

A bizarre moment then occurred in the sixth game, when Manyu had to stop the match to cut the thread from her t-shirt. And just like her choice of attire, the final started unravelling before her eyes as Yingsha ’s three-point lead moved to four, five, then six. A late resurgence closed the gap to 9-7, but Yingsha got to three championship points. Refusing to go down without a fight, Manyu closed the gap to one.

But Yingsha was not going to let her compatriot back into this one, and The Kallang exploded with noise when she got over the line for her 18th WTT Series title.

Top ranked Sun Yingsha clinched her third women’s singles title while Wang Chuqin his second men’s singles title

[7
65
post-10014","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-newsbeat","tag-table-tennis
["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Sun-Yingsha-is-a-five-time-Grand-Smash-winner.jpg",1000,660,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Sun-Yingsha-is-a-five-time-Grand-Smash-winner-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Sun-Yingsha-is-a-five-time-Grand-Smash-winner-300x198.jpg",300,198,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Sun-Yingsha-is-a-five-time-Grand-Smash-winner-768x507.jpg",640,423,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Sun-Yingsha-is-a-five-time-Grand-Smash-winner.jpg",640,422,false],"1536x1536":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Sun-Yingsha-is-a-five-time-Grand-Smash-winner.jpg",1000,660,false],"2048x2048":["https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Sun-Yingsha-is-a-five-time-Grand-Smash-winner.jpg",1000,660,false
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Sun-Yingsha-is-a-five-time-Grand-Smash-winner-825x575.jpg",825,575,true
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Sun-Yingsha-is-a-five-time-Grand-Smash-winner-590x410.jpg",590,410,true
admin
https://www.infinitysport.asia/news/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Sun-Yingsha-is-a-five-time-Grand-Smash-winner.jpg
["GET
