President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani is poised to take over as the new president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
He was the sole candidate nominated for the presidency, after nominations closed on 31 July 2025.
He will be officially elected unopposed at the OCA General Assembly tomorrow in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Sheikh Joaan will take over from India’s Raja Randhir Singh, who has been unable to attend to his duties due to health reasons. Raja Randhir had stepped in as the OCA president after the incumbent Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah started serving a 15-year ban for ethics violations.
Sheikh Joaan is also the Senior Vice President of Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), and is widely recognised for advancing Qatar’s sporting profile and promoting regional cooperation within the Olympic Movement.
President of the QOC since 2015, Sheikh Joaan also chaired the successful bid to bring the Asian Games back to Doha in 2030, following the landmark 2006 edition.
