Malaysian shuttlers claimed all three doubles titles at the Indonesian Master in Jakarta.
They won both the men’s doubles and mixed doubles in contrasting styles while the women’s doubles was handed to them without contest.
Fourth seeded Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin ended the fairy tale run of Indonesian youngsters Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin with a 21-19, 21-13 to claim their first title of the season.
After two early exits at the Malaysian Open and Indian Opens earlier this month, it was relieve for the Malaysian pair looking to redeem themselves.
Raymond-Nikolaus had upstaged two of their higher ranked teammates enroute to the final were brilliant in patches and their inconsistency was the bane in the final.
World champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei became the first Malaysian pair to clinch the mixed doubles crown at the Indonesia Masters with a hard-earned 15-21, 21-17, 21-11 win in 56 minutes over Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen Alexandra Boje.
It was sweet revenge for the Malaysians, who had lost to the Danes at the Macau Open semi-finals last season.
The win in the mixed doubles in Jakarta was also the first for a Malaysian pair at Masters.
Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan won the women’s doubles title without even lifting their racquets after Japan’s Arisa Igarashi-Miyu Takahashi conceded a walkover in the final.
It will be the first title of the year for the world number two pair, whom had finished runners-up here last year. They are also the first Malaysia women’s doubles champions at the event in 15-years since Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei won in 2011.
The two singles finals were pictures of complete contrast. Former world junior champion Alwi Farhan was in complete control in the men’s singles final as he demolished Thailand’s Teeraratsakul Panitchaphon 21-5, 21-6 to claim his first Super 500 title.
Thailand’s reigning women’s singles world junior champion Opatniputh Pitchamon gave another impressive performance as she makes her transition to the senior level. However, her opponent, former Olympic champion Chen Yufei drew on her experience to carve out a 23-21, 21-13 win for the title.
