Cambodia picked up their first win at the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026 Qualifiers, defeating minnows Guam 5-1 in their Group B tie.
After defeats to Pakistan, Laos and Yemen, the win in BIshkek was a morale booster, but will have not be enough for the Kingdom to qualify. Only the winners of each of the seven groups qualify for the Asian Cup.
Cambodia controlled the first half but found the Guam defence and goalkeeper Micah Tabarez to be tough nuts to crack.
It took the Southeast Asian side until the 36th minute to break the deadlock with Chantha Seyha steering home Chhean Sokheng’s cutback from the right.
Guam began the second half in a positive way and drew level in the 64th minute when Cambodia’s Mao Sokheang nodded into his own net when trying to clear a cross from the left.
The equaliser, however, had an adverse effect on Guam with Cambodia securing the win through goals from Be Cheaming (64th), Ly Sok Kryya (68th), Thy Vutty (76th) and Seyha (90th+6).
In another Group B match, Yemen stayed perfect after defeating Pakistan 5-1.
Yemen continued their impressive form with the opener in the 18th minute, Sailan Basheer beating Samar Razzaq from the penalty spot.
Pakistan’s inability to clear from Basheer’s corner delivery saw them concede again a minute later with Ali Shafiq’s curler bouncing off the bar, hitting Razzaq and landing over the line.
The West Asians struck again in the 25th minute when Abdulrahman Alqufaili threaded the ball through for Fahd Salah, who rounded Razzaq before slotting home.
Salah scored again in the 69th minute after he twice rounded Razzaq before flicking home from an acute angle with Mansoor Ahmad netting a consolation for Pakistan two minutes later.
