Philippines had to concede to Poland’s superiority as they went down 6-0 in their opening FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup Philippines 2025 tie. Up next for the hosts are Morocco, who were also beaten 6-0 by Argentina.
Poland overpowered Philippines despite an electric atmosphere at the PhilSports Arena in Metropolitan Manila. The crowd erupted every time the Filipina5 attacked, but once Wojciech Weiss’s charges found their rhythm it was one-way traffic.
Julia Basta put Poland ahead in the seventh minute with Natalia Matuszewska doubling their advantage just before the break.
Julia Szostak netted the third in the 23rd with Aga Bala scoring her second of the night a minute later.
Bala and Klaudia Kubaszek were both outstanding, while Basta bagged a brace.
Lanie Ortillo’s own goal in the 26th added to Philippines’ woes with Klaudia Dyminska completing the emphatic win in the 30th minute.
Despite the heavy defeat, Filipino goalkeeper Samantha Hughes, who is only 17, helped the Philippines make 19 saves.
“Right now we’re euphoric. We were really strong as a team, put in a very good performance and scored six goals. But the game’s over and we need to start thinking about Argentina,” said Poland’s Klaudia Kubaszek.
Player of the Match. Silvina Nava sizzled as Argentina punched their opponents Morocco for six.
Argentina weren’t among the three pre-tournament favourites, but Silvina insisted that teamwork could carry them to the title. It powered them to an emphatic statement of intent. The Albiceleste had six different scorers, with Ana Ontiveros going down in history as the competition’s maiden markswoman.
Although Nava wasn’t among them, she headlined the show with her trademark trickery. Argentina netted their first four goals within a spell of merely two minutes and 34 seconds.
The Argentinian goals came from Ana Ontiveros (15), Agostina Chiesa (16), Mailen Romero (17), Luciana Natta (18), Lara Villalba (21) and Julia Dupuy (29).
“I’m really happy. I had visualised this moment so many times… maybe not scoring the very first goal, but scoring in the match. It happened, I’m over the moon. It still hasn’t really sunk in,” said Argentinian winger Ana Ontiveros.
