Three Asian players are in the running for the game’s most prestigious honours, the FIFA Puskas Award and FIFA Marta Award.
Indonesia’s Rizky Ridho, DPR Korea’s Jon Ryong Jong and Australia’s Kyra Cooney-Cross were announced as finalists in their respective categories on Thursday.
Rizky Ridho | Persija Jakarta vs Arema | 9 March 2025
Ridho’s nomination stems from his spectacular strike for Persija Jakarta in their Indonesia Liga 1 clash against Arema on 9 March 2025.
The defender scored from the halfway line, sending a looping shot over an out of position Arema FC goalkeeper Lucas Frigeri to send the partisan fans into raptures.
Kyra Cooney-Cross | Germany vs Australia | 28 October 2024
Cooney-Cross earned her nod thanks to a stunning goal in Australia’s 2-1 friendly with Germany on 28 October 2024.
Cooney-Cross marked her 50th appearance for Australia with her first goal when she picked up the ball inside the Germans’ half and unleashed a shot from deep to beat the keeper.
Jon Ryong Jong | DPR Korea vs Argentina | 2 September 2024
Jon Ryong Jong made the cut for her sensational effort in DPR Korea’s 6-2 victory over Argentina in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia on 2 September 2024.
Jon found space at the top of the box before launching a screamer into the top right corner.
