Sweden’s Mondo Duplantis heads the list of nomination for the Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.
Following a monumental 2024 where he won Olympic gold with a world record, he managed to surpass even that in 2025. He broke the world record four more times, including at the recent World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, with a new mark of 6.30m.
The 25-year-old Duplantis, who was also nominated once again for the European Athlete of the Year, looks the odds-on favourite to be picked as the best by the World Athletics.
Apart from his superlative antics at the World Athletics Championships, where he bagged his third outdoor title, Duplantis also leapt to the world indoor pole vault crown.
He won the Diamond League comfortably and has been breaking other records as well.
In winning the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing in March with 6.15m, Duplantis became the first pole vaulter to clear 6 metres on 100 occasions. He has won 41 pole vault competitions in succession. His last defeat was at the Monaco Diamond League on 21 July 2023.
He has for company in the awards category, four other outstanding athletes – world long jump champion Mattia Furlani of Italy, world hammer champion Ethan Katzberg, New Zealand’s world high jump champion Hamish Kerr and world triple jump champion Pedro Pichardo of Portugal.
