Andreas Almgren
Sweden’s European champion Andreas Almgren will race the men’s 10,000m in front of his home crowd at the BAUHAUS-Galan Wanda Diamond League meeting in Stockholm next June.
Andreas Almgren is the first athlete to confirm his attendance at a 2027 Diamond League meeting, with the Swede set to compete in the men’s 10,000m in Stockholm on June 6.
Swedish star Almgren will line up in front of his home crowd, where he claimed his first ever Diamond League victory in 2025.
The announcement comes less than a month after Almgren set a European record of 58:06 to win the world half marathon title in Copenhagen. One month prior to that, the versatile Swedish athlete won the European 10,000m title in a championship record of 27:23.44, finishing 19 seconds ahead of his opponents.
The world bronze medallist is currently preparing to make his marathon debut in New York City on 1 November. He will skip the indoor season next year before making his track return in Stockholm.
The 31-year-old is the reigning European champion and World Championships bronze medallist over 10,000m and recently won gold in the half marathon at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen.
He has been a regular fixture on the Diamond League stage in recent years, notching up six top-three finishes at Diamond League meetings in the past three seasons.
The most memorable of those came in 2025, when he won the 5000m in front of a raucous home crowd, setting a new European record of 12:44.27.
“I’m really looking forward to racing the 10,000m at BAUHAUS-galan! Setting the European record in the 5,000m at Stockholm Olympic Stadium in 2025 was one of the most incredible experiences of my career, and now I’m aiming to top that over twice the distance,” he said.
Stockholm is the seventh leg of the 2027 Diamond League, which begins in Doha on May 7 and ends at the two-day series final in Zurich on August 25-26.
The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
