The men’s Mundialito got underway in El Puerto de Santa María with two thrilling encounters. Portugal fought back to defeat Brazil, inspired by a Leo Martins hat-trick, while Chiky Ardil’s extra-time winner earned hosts Spain a hard-fought victory over Paraguay.
Portugal win 7-5 against Brazil
Leo Martins opened the scoring in the third minute of the first period, but Datinha replied immediately before Antonio put Brazil ahead. Lourenço’s brilliant late strike brought Portugal level at 2–2 heading into the first break.
Brazil regained control in the second period, with Antonio, Rodrigo and Catarino all finding the net to establish a three-goal advantage. Brilhante and Leo Martins responded for Portugal, reducing the deficit to 5–4 ahead of the final period.
Portugal completed the turnaround with three unanswered goals in the third period. Leo Martins struck again to complete his hat-trick, Pedro Mano also got on the scoresheet, and Algarvio sealed the 7–5 victory.
Spain 4-3 against Paraguay in extra time
Michi gave Paraguay an early lead, before Jose Oliver’s brilliant finish with three minutes remaining in the opening period brought the hosts level at 1–1.
Medina restored Paraguay’s advantage two minutes after the restart, but Chiky Ardil struck midway through the second period to make it 2–2, keeping the sides level heading into the final period.
Joselito put Spain ahead early in the third period, only for Michi’s second goal to force extra time. Chiky Ardil then struck the decisive goal, completing his brace and securing a narrow victory for the hosts.
Brazil prevail on penalties
In the women’s Mundialito it was all about late drama with plenty of goals. Brazil overcame Italy in a thrilling encounter decided on penalties, while hosts Spain delivered a commanding final-period display to defeat Ukraine.

Spain began their Mundialito Beach Soccer campaign with a convincing 6–1 victory over Ukraine. Both sides scored late in the opening period, with Carol Glez finding the net for the hosts before a Spanish own goal brought Ukraine level at 1–1 heading into the first break.
Andrea Miron restored Spain’s advantage in the second period. The hosts held their narrow 2–1 lead through to the final break, leaving the match firmly in the balance.
Spain took control in the third period, adding four unanswered goals to secure an emphatic win. Campoy, Cuadrado, Serrat and Sara Tui were all on target as the hosts rounded off the opening day’s women’s action in style.

A four-goal flourish in the final period powered Spain to a convincing 6–1 victory over Ukraine. The opening period ended evenly, with Carol Glez scoring for Spain before a Spanish own goal brought Ukraine level at 1–1 ahead of the first break.
Andrea Miron restored Spain’s advantage in the second period, giving the hosts a narrow 2–1 lead heading into the final frame.
Spain then stepped up a gear, with Campoy, Cuadrado, Serrat and Sara Tui all finding the net. Their four unanswered goals sealed an emphatic win to round off the opening day’s women’s action.
