Japan claimed five titles at the AKF Senior Karate Championships in Bali, Indonesia with Maho Ono leading charge.
Female Kata – Maho Ono Returns to the Top
Ono claimed the gold medal after defeating Grace Lau Mo Sheung of Hong Kong China. Ono secured her first title since January 2025 and overcame the reigning Asian champion, world champion, and Karate One Grand Winner.
Male Kata – Fifth Continental Title for Kakeru Nishiyama
Kakeru Nishiyama of Japan defeated Sayed Salman Almosawi of Kuwait to win the gold medal. The victory gave Nishiyama his fifth Asian title and extended his unbeaten run that started in November 2023.
Male Kumite -55kg – Zholaman Bigabyl Stays Dominant
Kazakhstan’s Zholaman Bigabyl continued his control of the category with a commanding 12-2 victory over Sultan Musayri of Saudi Arabia.
Female Kumite -50kg – Yee Ting Tsang Regains the Crown
Yee Ting Tsang of Hong Kong China defeated Junhui Wang of China 10-4. It was her second continental title and her first since winning gold in 2023.
Male Kumite -60kg – First Gold for Saud Albasher
Saud Albasher of Saudi Arabia earned his first Asian title with a 9-1 victory over Abdelrahman Abdelhamid of Qatar. His previous best result at the championships was a bronze medal.
Female Kumite -55kg – Alisha Reaches the Top
India’s Alisha won her first continental title after edging Japan’s Rina Kodo 4-3 in a close final. Her previous best result was a bronze medal.
Male Kumite -67kg – Olzhas Altynbek Takes Gold
Olzhas Altynbek of Kazakhstan captured the title with a 9-3 victory over Abdel Rahman Almasatfa of Jordan.
Female Kumite -61kg – Sarara Shimada Prevails
Japan’s Sarara Shimada secured the gold medal after a narrow 5-4 win against Assel Kanay of Kazakhstan.
Male Kumite -75kg – Morteza Nemati Triumphs
Morteza Nemati of Iran claimed the Asian crown by defeating Nurkanat Azhikanov of Kazakhstan 3-2.
Female Kumite -68kg – Dieu Ly Nguyen Shines for Vietnam
Vietnam’s Dieu Ly Nguyen earned gold with a convincing 5-1 victory over Tsubasa Kama of Japan.
Male Kumite -84kg – Mohammad Aljafari Dominates
Mohammad Aljafari of Jordan produced one of the most decisive performances of the day, defeating Rida Messaoudi of the United Arab Emirates 13-3.
Female Kumite +68kg – Home Success for Leica Al Humaira Lubis
Indonesia celebrated a gold medal as Leica Al Humaira Lubis defeated Yara Naser of Jordan 6-3 in the final.
Male Kumite +84kg – Mahmoud Nemati Wins for Iran
Mahmoud Nemati of Iran secured the title with a 4-0 victory over Sanad Sufyani of Saudi Arabia.
Female Team Kata – Japan Takes the Title
Japan delivered a strong performance to defeat China 7-0 and win the female team kata gold medal.
Male Team Kata – Japan Continues Success
Japan also topped the male team kata competition, overcoming Kuwait by a score of 6-1.
Female Team Kumite – Iran Defeats Japan
Iran captured the female team kumite title with a clear 10-2 victory against Japan.
Male Team Kumite – Jordan Finishes on Top
Jordan closed the championships with gold in male team kumite after defeating Iran 3-0 in the final.
