Kim Si-woo
Kim Si-woo’s lead atop the CJ Cup Bryan Nelson golf championships was cut to three as world number one Scottie Scheffler and Wyndham Clark moved into striking distance.
The 30-year-old, who held a five stroke second round lead after a magical 60 second round, shot 3-under 68 in the third round for a two-shot lead over top-ranked Scheffler and 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, who carded matching 65s.
Fellow Korean Im Sung-jae followed a second-round 61 with a 67 and was a further two shots back with Stephan Jaeger and Tom Hoge. Jaeger’s 64 was the low round of the day at the TPC Craig Ranch, and Hoge shot 66.
Three bogeys in a span of four holes saw Si-woo’s five stroke lead vanishing by the 11th hole. At that point he dropped into a tie with Clark at 18 under. Clark had earlier pulled within a stroke with a short eagle putt on the par-5 ninth. Si-woo recovered with a couple of birdies to regain the lead and extend it as others faltered.
The four time Tour winner is seeking to be the first Korean winner on TOUR since Tom Kim at the 2023 Shriners Children’s Open.
Scheffler is still capable to overhauling Si-woo as he seeks to defend the title he won here last year. He had won by eight last year, the second-largest margin of victory in tournament history after Sam Snead, who won by 10 in 1957.
The American Express winner this season, Scheffler is hoping to become the first player since Tiger Woods to successfully defend their title.
Clark is hoping to add a fourth Tour victory and his first since since the 2024 Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Meanwhile, teenager Blades Brown (T12/-14) is 42.553 points short of the threshold for Special Temporary Membership of the PGA TOUR, which he can reach with a solo 21st this week.
