The Fitzpatrick brothers – Matt and Alex, combined for a 1-under 71 in alternate-shot play Sunday to pull out a dramatic, single-stroke victory in the Zurich Classic golf team event.
The brothers finished with a tournament-record 31-under 257 total, but the win almost did not materialise after the duo gave away a four-stroke lead on the back nine.
Matt, the elder of the two Fitzpatricks, stuck a bunker shot on the par-5 18th a foot from the hole and Alex made the putt confirm the victory and earn a two-year exemption on PGA Tour for himself.
Matt is already a regular on the Tour, ranked third in the world.
Watching from the clubhouse tied at 30 under were the teams of Americans Alex Smalley and Hayden Springer and Norwegians Kristoffer Reitan and Kris Ventura.
The brothers win came in their fourth appearance as a team and having missed the cut last year. They are also the first family members to win the event.
Defending champions Ben Griffin and teammate Andrew Novak finished tied-10th their title
Flavin birdies to win
Trailing by one with five holes to play, Patrick Flavin birdied Nos. 14-16 to take the lead and finish with a two-stroke victory at the 94 Abierto del Centro Zurich in Cordoba, Argentina. Flavin closed with a 4-under 67 at Cordoba Golf Club to overtake third-round leader Patrick Sheehan for his second PGA Tour sanctioned victory and first since 2019.
“To execute well under pressure was a huge thrill and I think something I’ll kind of feed off of going into the rest of the season and honestly rest of my career,” Flavin said of his three straight birdies, which included a chip-in on No. 14. “It’s absolutely huge to win. … I’ve played a lot on different levels and what my goal has been for this season is just to kind of put my head down, enjoy being out here and playing.”
“I had a couple weeks on the PGA TOUR that showed me I belong out there, I truly believe that that’s where I belong,” said Flavin, who moves to No. 1 on the PGA Tour Americas Points List. “I’ve always said to myself as long as I believe that I belong on the PGA Tour, I’ll keep playing.”
Marcos Montenegro closed with a 1-under 70 and was the low Argentinian at T10, while reigning Latin America Amateur Championship winner Mateo Pulcini finished T27 at 4-under.
Mason Greene, winner of the season-opening Brazil Open, finished T56 and is No. 2 on the season-long points list after the second of 15 events in 2026.
