Paralympic champion Lisa Kjær Jensen has become the first Para Taekwondo athlete ever to be appointed to the World Taekwondo Council as the federation strengthens its commitment to greater representation.
Jensen, whose term runs until the Lima 2028 World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Peru, brings invaluable experience to the Council not just an athlete and Paralympian but also as high performance expert and legal professional.
Jensen claimed Para Taekwondo gold at the sport’s Paralympic debut in Tokyo 2020 and went on to win bronze at Paris 2024. Over her decorated career, she has won four world championship titles and five European titles.
In recognition of her achievements, she was selected as the female athlete at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games at World Taekwondo’s Golden Jubilee Gala Dinner, where awards were presented to outstanding male and female athletes from each Olympic Games since Sydney 2000.
Away from the mat, she worked as a high performance sports consultant for Parasport Denmark, using her experience to provide strategic guidance of the development of high performance and talent environments in para sport. She also serves as the Deputy Chef de Mission for the Paralympic Games at LA28 and as Vice Chair on the Danish Athletes’ Committee (DIF).
Jensen has more than 15 years legal experience in the prosecution service and police in Denmark and specialised in governance, regulatory frameworks, compliance and public administration.
World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue said: “We are delighted to welcome Lisa to the World Taekwondo Councill. Many know Lisa as a Paralympic champion and one of Para Taekwondo’s pioneering athletes. But while she will bring huge experience and insight from her decorated athlete career, she also boasts significant experience in athlete development and governance that will be of great value to the Council. We look forward to working closely with her in the years ahead.”
