Australian star Liu Yangzi has taken the women’s singles plaudits at WTT Feeder Senec, following a spotless 11-5, 18-16, 11-7 victory over Yoo Yerin last night.
Top seed Yangzi, who won her first WTT Feeder Series title back in 2021, was at the top of her game all week long at Transpetrol Sport Hall, powering through to the quarterfinals with little trouble. In the last eight she’d pull off a statement win, brushing aside opposition from former World No.10 Yang Xiaoxin 11-4, 12-10, 9-11, 11-4.
Competing in the women’s singles final just five days earlier at WTT Feeder Havirov, it was another impressive week for Huang Yu-Jie that saw the 22-year-old Chinese Taipei player into the Senec semifinals, where she was eventually bested 11-7, 11-9, 12-14, 11-9 by Yangzi. The Australian then confirmed her champion status in resounding fashion, holding off a brave effort from rising star Yerin in the title match.
That’s now two career WTT Feeder Series successes for Yangzi Liu, while Senec’s men’s singles champion Joe Seyfried moves to three.
Title winner last year in Parma and Düsseldorf, Seyfried knows exactly what it takes to get the job done at this level.
But his quest for more hardware nearly suffered a premature setback, with Liu Zhenlong narrowly missing out on a shock Round of 32 win. The Frenchman, who won that match 11-8, 5-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8, went on to beat John Oyebode in another grueling final 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9.
