Martina Favaretto of Italy defeated teammate Martina Batini 15-10 to win the women’s foil World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, topping a field of one hundred and seventy fencers.
In the semifinals, Favaretto beat Marta Jakubowska of Poland 15-6, while Batini bested Azuma Sera of Japan 15-9.
Jakubowska and Azuma both earned bronze.
There were two surprise upsets in the round of 64 as defending world silver medallist from Tbilisi 2025) and ninth ranked Pauline Ranvier of France fell to the 61st ranked Josephina Conway of the United States 15-14, while Paris 2024 silver medallist and eighth ranked Lauren Scruggs of the United States was ousted by the 108th ranked Vladislava Peniushkina of _AIN 15-7.

In a men’s field of two hundred and twenty-one, Japan’s Iimura Kazuki topped Alexander Choupenitch of Czechia 15-10 to take the gold
In the semifinals Iimura defeated Paris 2025 bronze medallist Nick Itkin 15-9 while Choupenitch beat Anas Anane of France 15-12.
Itkin and Anane both took bronze.
It was a day of upsets starting in the round of 64 when top-seeded and defending World champion Ryan Choi Chun Yin went out to 24th ranked Zeng Zhaoran of China 15-12. Eighth ranked former World champion Tommaso Marino of Italy lost to 45th ranked Leszek Rajski of Poland 15-13, and world bronze medallist and 12th ranked Gergo Szemes of Hungary dropped to 46th ranked Alexandr Kerik of_AIN 15-8.
In the round of 32, two-time defending Olympic champion and seventh ranked Cheung Ka Long of Hong Kong, China fell to 26th ranked Bryce Louie of the United States 15-10.
