Minister of Tourism H.E. Huot Hak led approximately 5,000 people from all walks of life on a 5km walk in Kampong Cham in celebration of the TAFISA World Walking Day.
The programme also attended by the Governor of Kampong Cham, H.E. Un Chanda and numerous government leaders and agencies, is believed to be the biggest celebration of the event globally this year.
The World Walking Day is a campaign initiated by The Association For International Sports for All (TAFISA), to celebrate being active and join the most accessible and inclusive 24-hour relay around the globe.
Kg Cham Province, Cambodia, joined tens of nations globally in celebrating the World Walking Day.
This was the second time that Cambodia celebrated the global programme. The World Walking Day was first celebrated in Cambodia at Prey Veng in 2023 with more than 500 participants, a figure surpassed by the Kampong Cham community.
This year’s theme for the World Walking Day was Walk for Peace, a notion that Cambodians are actively and whole-heartedly promoting, especially with the recent border conflict with Thailand.
Participants at the walk also came from all age groups – as young as six to those in the 70s. A large group of Buddhist Monks were also part of the World Walking Day this time around. Traditional musicians and costumed walkers also added colour to the programme.
Launched in 1991, World Walking Day has provided a simple and fun way to be physically active and celebrate Sport for All against the global crisis of physical inactivity. Over three decades, millions of people hailing from over a hundred and sixty countries have made a habit of walking together on the first Sunday of October, turning it into “World Walking Day”.

The World Walking Day was organized under the auspices of the Kg Cham Province and the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (Cambodia Chapter) and Infinity Sports.
