The Earth Warriors Day, was successfully celebrated with a clean-up of the coastal village of Prek Svay in Koh Rong Island.
Close to 300 people from the community including more than 100 schoolchildren participated in the environmental programme being conducted for the second year in Cambodia. Last year the programme was conducted at the Oudong Pagoda.
Participants also came from various government agencies, resorts and other corporate organisations based in the island.
This year’s programme organized by Infinity Sport Co Ltd, and supported by the Koh Rong City Hall and Pacific Asia Tourism Association, Cambodia Chapter was held with the sponsorship from Banjaran Asset Management, Acleda Securities, Mafiya’s Resort and Fencing Federation of Cambodia.
The event was also held 19 other countries including Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, China and Japan.
Speaking at the closing of the event, Koh Rong Mayor said that keeping the environment was a lifelong task that everyone needed to cultivate into their daily lives.
“Keeping our island clean and pollution free can only be successful with the support from everyone, including the tourist who come to enjoy the pristine beaches here in Koh Rong,” he said.
He added that more community activities were being planned in the island that is growing into a popular tourist destination.
